We’re Renting The House Out

The unthinkable has happened and I have accepted a great job at Twitter which requires Chelan and I to relocate to San Francisco. Never thought we would ever move out of this house we spent two years building, but alas, we must, and would prefer to lease it to someone we trust. A friend, or friend-of-a-friend would be great.

I’ve set up this page to send around to friends and provide an overview of what we’re offering.

Size and specs

The house is about 3200 square feet, plus a 1300 square foot finished, above grade basement, for a total of about 4500 square feet. There are three bedrooms upstairs including the master and one more in the basement. There are also 3.5 bathrooms. The lot is 10,000 square feet with a lawn in front and two in back. There is also a two-car garage.

The neighborhood

The house is on what I consider the nicest block in the nicest neighborhood in Seattle: Magnolia. While Magnolia Blvd gets all the attention in Magnolia, it’s a really busy street with cars going by all day and all night. Our street, on the other hand, has zero through traffic and it’s so quiet you can hear seals barking on some mornings. The house is a few minute walk to Discovery Park and close to several other jogging routes as well. There is also a Metropolitan Market about 10 blocks away on 34th St.

The view

You won’t find a better view anywhere in Seattle. The house sits on top of a cliff and faces southwest towards Puget Sound and Bainbridge Island. There are three decks, and the view is a full 180 degrees all the way from Alki to the south to Kingston to the north. There are ferries, submarines, and other beautiful boats to watch cruise by every day. The sunsets and storm clouds are also beautiful. To get a good idea of what the house looks like from all angles, please check out the photo gallery.

The rooftop deck and hot tub

There is a rooftop deck with a hot tub sunken into it. ‘Nuff said.

The design

The house is pacific northwest modern in style: Bamboo floors, wide open spaces, and tons of light. Pretty much the entire view-facing side of the house is made of glass.

Technology

There is about five miles of networking cable inside the walls of the house and it’s wired for everything. There is both DirecTV and Comcast cable, there are motorized shades, there is a security system, there is Pandora throughout, and there are remote controllable lights… and you can control pretty much the entire house from your iPhone.

The kitchen

The kitchen is made for a chef and we have everything from an induction cooktop to a giant walk-in pantry.

Furniture

We haven’t decided whether to rent the house furnished or unfurnished. We are open to either option.

Interested?

If you’re interested in living in our home for a few years, please email me here. We are mostly concerned with finding someone who is willing to take care of the place as their own.
